Taylor Swift borrowed a few seconds from her MTV VMA speech for the “Video of the Year” award and talked about her 10th album, Midnights. She announced that her new album will be released two months later on October 21st. Referring to the Video of the Year award, “I thought it would be a fun moment to tell you that my new album will be out on October 21. I’ll tell you more at midnight.”

Soon after, he changed his social media bio to “Meet at midnight” to create hype for the opening. The phrase soon sprouted into a trending hashtag on Twitter.

At 12 p.m. Swift gave plenty of detail on what to expect from her 10th studio album, and revealed her album artwork.

When is the album coming out?
Swift announced her first-ever release date at the MTV VMAs: Friday, October 21, 2022. Especially given the name, it will likely be a midnight like his other previous works. Fans pointed out that October 21, 2022, incidentally, is Kim Kardashian’s birthday. But what the digitals do is more revealing: 10 + 2 + 1 = 13, Swift’s beloved and pervasive Easter egg number and track number in Midnights.

Is this album another re-recording?
No, Swift’s October 21 album will be a new original piece. At the time of the Midnights announcement, Swift didn’t mention when it would release re-records of 1989 and Reputation.

What songs are on the album? Which one will be single?
Swift hasn’t released a tracklist yet, but the album will feature a total of 13 new songs. During the midnight album announcement, he gave a little detail on what they’ll be about: “Midnights, the stories of 13 sleepless nights scattered in my life, will be out on October 21. Let’s meet at midnight.” She hasn’t released her first single yet.

What is the album about? Are the songs based on Swift’s life?
When Swift announced the project, she explained the premise and theme of her work. He wrote:

“We lie awake in love and fear, in turmoil and tears. We look at the walls and drink until they talk. We collide in epochs of our own making and pray not to make a life-changing mistake right now.

This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey between fears and sweet dreams. The floors we walk and the demons we encounter. For all of us tossed around and decided to keep the lanterns on and search—perhaps, when the clock strikes twelve… hoping we’d meet ourselves.

Midnights, the story of 13 sleepless nights scattered in my life, will be released on October 21. Let’s meet at midnight.”

Will Swift go on tour for this album?
Swift has yet to announce any tour dates. His last announcement about the tour was in February 2021, referring to the canceled Lover Fest tour dates and explaining why he didn’t plan to reschedule them. She later wrote:

“I love coming here to give you good news or to share a new project with you. Having to give you the sad news is not my favorite thing in the world. I’m sorry, but we can’t reschedule shows we’ve postponed. Although refunds have been given since we first postponed Lover Fest shows, many of you were stuck with your tickets and I clung to the idea that we could reschedule.

This is an unprecedented epidemic that is changing everyone’s plans, and no one knows what the tour landscape will look like in the near future. I’m very disappointed that I won’t be able to see you face to face. I miss you so much and can’t wait for us to be able to perform safely together again.” -Taylor Swift
