The Schiaparelli fashion show that opened Paris Couture Week represented a remarkable collision of timelines. Designed by US fashion designer Daniel Roseberry, who dressed everyone from Beyoncé to First Lady Jill Biden, the collection celebrated the opening of a retrospective dedicated to the museum’s founder, Elsa Schiaparelli.
Daniel Roseberry, Schiaparelli’s brilliant art director, embraced the idea of ”talking to the people who inspired him” for the 2022-23 Spring/Summer Haute Couture Collection presented at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
The surreal world of the house’s founding genius, Elsa Schiaparelli, includes pieces that her designer friends, including Yves Saint Laurent, Jean Paul Gaultier, Azzedine Alaïa, and Christian Lacroix, have created in homage.
These include a black velvet jacket with drawer-shaped pockets, a reference to the “Bureau Drawer” suit Schiaparelli created with artist Salvador Dalí in 1936; Featuring a collared velvet jacket inspired by his collaboration with Jean Cocteau
“I think Elsa’s legacy, her connection to the present and everything is really incredibly brought to life, so I’m really excited,” the designer said in a preview.
