Peach Music Festival 2022 Day 3 | Montage Mountain | 07/02/2022

Day three is when the magic happens at festivals and this year was no exception at the Peach Music Festival in Scranton, Pa. The weather behaved for the most part, which allowed the schedule to blossom with creativity. Headliners comprised the Trey Anastasio Band, goose and The Revivalists. Lodge activities included Grateful Dead photographer Jay Blakesburg’s talk about his incredible experiences with the band, and a live episode of the Great Beyond Podcast.

Saturday’s activities began with the accomplished live music photographer, Jay Blakesburg, who gave a talk about his experiences throughout his fourty years taking photos for the Grateful Dead. Afterwards, the Great Beyond Podcast, billed as “not a goose” podcast, filmed a live episode while interviewing Dogs in a Pile, melt and Ripe. led by Greg KnightBruce Robinson and Joey Parisi, the lucky fans in attendance were able to catch a more personal side of the artists during the insightful interviews conducted by our Goose guru hosts.

The Allman Brothers theme continued on the Mushroom stage with Friends of the Brothersfollowed by the busiest man at Peach, Daniel Donato along with Daniel Donato’s Cosmic Country. The rising Boston, Mass jam rock artist neighbor followed. The emerging artist Groove Stage’s stellar line up began with Muskrat Lightning, Dry Reef, Pixie and the Partygrass Boysand J.B. Strauss.

Ripe, the rising funk, R&B, and jazz squad from Boston, Mass, took the stage with dark skies approaching. Percussionist Jeff Arevalo from Goose sat in, though the band’s time was cut short based on approaching thunderstorms.

Singer David Shaw connected with the audience | The Revivalists

After the weather cleared, The Revivalists took the Peach Stage for their set. lead singer David Shaw immediately jumped on the amps in front of the stage, and began singing directly to the crowd, much to the delight of fans. Other members of the band joined in the fun. Overall, their alternative rock meets jam band sound made a great show. By this point, the sky decided to pour rain with full force, but there was no lightning, and thus no music interruption.

The Trey Anastasio Band was up next, led by Phish Guitarist Trey Anastasio, which mixes jam rock with jazz and a stellar horn section. Many wondered if a member of Goose would join the party, as Anastasio sat in with Goose the prior weekend. Nevertheless, this band heated the room up early by diving into a Phish favorite, “Blaze On.”

Singer and guitarist Celisse Henderson sat in for “The Moma Dance,” “A Life Beyond the Dream” and “Rise/Come Together,” where she contributed her always inspiring vocals. Anastasio and Henderson had a few exchanges on guitar as well. She contributed her beautiful vocals to Anastasio’s Ghost of the Forest project in 2019.

The Mushroom and Groove stages were alive and kicking as well. The American and country rock Cordovas delivered a raging set on the Mushroom Stage. Melt returned to the Groove Stage for take two. The edgy rock plus jazz artist One Time Weekend kept the Groove Stage going into the night. The Cycles handled late night duties on the Groove Stage, while Brandon “Taz” Niederauerthe nineteen year old guitar prodigy from Long Island, NY, played into the early morning hours on the Mushroom Stage.

Guitarist Peter Anspach | goose

The self described indie groove rock band from Connecticut, Goose, closed out the music on the Peach Stage with a memorable late night heater. This band broke into the jam rock scene three years ago at the Peach Music Festival on the Groove Stage, and went from being virtually unknown to closing out the largest stage on the biggest night of festival. The set began with a guitar dueling, albeit short, “Yeti.” Multi-instrumentalist Peter Anspach took a few notes from Shaw’s performance, and jumped on the amp for a few rock star moments.

Bassist Trevor Weekz | goose

The momentum rolled on with a twenty nine minute funk inferno “Arrow,” which notably returned to the original song configuration. John Steppenwolf’s “Magic Carpet Ride” proceeded, and included a raging jam by guitarist Rick Mitarotonda.

New jam vehicle “Animal” was followed by “Tumble” and Jim James’ “State of the Art (AEIOU).” The infrequently played, albeit melodically blissful vasudo tune “Factory Fiction” flowed into the line up next. For those keeping track, this band has ended the last four tours with “Factory Fiction” in the second set, and each one was equally delightful. The Peach Festival performance was Goose’ last until the Newport Folk Fest on July 22.

Lighting Director Andrew Goedde for the win | goose

The set closed out with new tune “Dripfield,” as the lights morphed into a smoky dark green, blue and red schema. Lighting Director Andrew Goedde continued to make a name for himself by dramatically elevating this red hot band’s music with his LED wizardry.
