International Woolmark Award Winners Found

The International Woolmark Awards, which enable the world’s leading designers such as Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld to be discovered, and also offer a unique talent development program, found their winners. The 2022 International Woolmark Award was presented to Saul Nash at a special event in London. MMUSOMAXWELL was the winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Innovation Award.

International Woolmark Award from highly respected business partners and experts such as Ben Gorham, Carine Roitfeld, Edward Enninful OBE, Ibrahim Kamara, Marc Newson CBE, Nadège Vanhee-Cybulski, Naomi Campbell, Pieter Mulier, Riccardo Tisci, Shaway Yeh, Sinéad Burke and Tim Blanks evaluated by a committee. The event was hosted by Nick Grimshaw, and Jourdan Dunn, Pixie Geldof, Susie Lau and Erin O’Connor were among the attendees.

Naomi Campbell, who sits on the award board, said: “It’s great to see the changes in fashion that continue to support dynamic young designers around the world, from Africa to China to the UK. Anyone who knows me knows that I support young talents at every opportunity, so I am very happy to be a part of this initiative.” He said, “Everything about the wool industry is self-supporting. It’s all about thinking about both the natural resources of the farms and the welfare of their sheep alike. I am very happy to work together at Woolmark.” she concluded.

The International Woolmark Award ceremony also celebrated the art of play this year in partnership with the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and the Garden Museum. In the gripping finale in London, the arrangement of the showroom was inspired by Isamu Noguchi’s sculptural playscapes that offer radical potential for physical and social interaction, and the seven finalists’ collections were showcased in a colorful and expressive way. The exhibition hall also featured two iconic original game sculptures by the artist. Each Merino wool collection featured at the awards ceremony consisted of forward-thinking designs from finalists who experimented with textiles, design and responsible business practices to foster change and innovation for a cleaner and brighter future.

“The International Woolmark Award is the jewel in our crown,” said John Roberts, Managing Director of The Woolmark Company. “With this award, we connect our Australian wool growers with the global fashion and textile industry and in turn emphasize the beauty, versatility and modernity of Australian wool. We are proud of the relationships developed between the designers guiding the contestants on their journey to the Woolmark Prize, our seven finalists, our prestigious jury and our supply chain network, and we hope these connections continue in the future.” he continued.

Award winner Saul Nash said, “Words are not enough to describe what this means to me. I am so grateful for what I have achieved in the last eight months. Everything Woolmark has done for me is truly the cherry on the top of the cake.” With a sense of discovery, it reveals the benefits of merino wool in sportswear, enabling it to develop materials that improve the quality of designs without compromising its technical DNA.Focusing on minimizing waste and emphasizing movement and performance, Saul Nash’s modern interpretation of knitwear challenges preconceived notions against sportswear.

Winner of the Karl Lagerfeld Innovation Award, MMUSOMAXWELL from South Africa dedicates itself to reducing environmental impact and improving traditional craftsmanship. Carine Roitfeld Quote: “When you meet certain people, you fall in love at first sight.” he explains. “I love what MMUSOMAXWELL does and the way they describe their work. They have dreams and what they do is for a modern, western woman, not just South Africa. I think Karl would have loved to talk to them today and I’m sure he would be very happy to hand them this award.” said.
